Rocky Mountain
Communities Rocky Mountain Mutual Housing Association, Inc., which has served the community since 1992 has changed its name to Rocky Mountain Communities (RMC). RMC develops, owns and manages affordable housing and provides support services to help individuals succeed in life. The organization’s name change to Rocky Mountain Communities (RMC), better reflects the organization’s mission to provide safe, attractive and affordable housing while meeting the needs of our residents in a changing environment. “The hardworking people that are our residents represent an absolutely crucial segment of our community and workforce. We are proud to serve a diverse group of people that work, among other professions, as teachers, firemen, domestic workers, nurses, security officers and policemen. Our residents are, without a doubt, the backbone of our community. We welcome those individuals that are concerned about the shortage of affordable housing for hardworking citizens, to join us in our work”, states Rocky Mountain Communities Chief Executive Officer, Douglas Smith. The RMC staff and the Board of Directors, with help from the community, plan to build upon past experience and successes to develop additional affordable properties in response to the very real need in the region. George Hamblin, RMC’s Chair acknowledges that RMC is committed to offering innovative solutions to the affordable housing shortage: “We are ready, able and willing to continue our work to provide affordable housing and reach out to more people who might otherwise be priced out of the market. Today, we provide a safe and affordable home in a supportive community for more than 1,000 hardworking families—we can be doing more and now is the time”. The number of residents in Colorado
continues to grow.
Since 2000 Colorado has seen a 10.5% population
growth with 4.7 million individuals calling Colorado home.
An ever expanding number of working individuals and
families cannot afford to pay rent or are severely burdened by rental costs.
Rocky Mountain Communities is committed to reaching
out to this population as they have for more than 15 years.
Ousmane
Gueye, former resident of an RMC community and currently a financial analyst for
ALPS Fund Services, Inc and RMC Board Member values the services of RMC,
“The lack of affordable housing has many implications for
families. High housing costs can mean that a family has less money to
spend on other fundamental needs, such as food, clothing, or healthcare. As a
result, many families are forced to move frequently, undermining their
children’s ability to perform well in school and making it hard to retain
employment. RMC’s apartment community was for me, a safe and stable
home. During my time at Garden Court (one of RMC’s properties) I was able to
become connected to a caring community and develop a sense of belonging.
RMC allowed me to use my energy and time to establish goals and stabilize other
aspects of my life.” Through professional associations and
effective leadership, Rocky Mountain Communities has established itself as a
leader in affordable housing.
Kathi Williams, Director, Colorado Division of
Housing adds,
"We have enjoyed our relationship over the years with Rocky Mountain Mutual
Housing Association, Inc. and look forward to the same great professionalism
under any name they may choose.
